Biters
The pillow biter series is socially inspired, casting
light on the homophobia that I believe still exists within
certain social groups. I have had numerous experiences
over the past decade, primarily in male dominated workplaces,
of blatant prejudices that are accepted or even common
practice in day-to-day social situations. Besides
the utter absurdity of such stereotypical slander, what
interests me most about this homophobic behavior is the
usual comic nature of its delivery in jokes or name-calling.
I have tried to consider and reflect on these experiences,
and in these works I attempt to portray where I believe
this behavior stems from. These objects, with their
crude mechanics, masculine nature, and fetish inference,
are my representations of the insecurities and ignorance
that predicate this behavior. |
